“A Grain of Rice from a Dog’s Tail” is a short documentary film wherein filmmaker Rixmey Virik interviews his mother Sath Chea about the Cambodian Genocide led by the Khmer Rouge in the late 1970s. The film captures the underlying trauma that Sath continues to experience when recalling the horrific genocide that ‘killed her siblings.’ Discussions of the gruesome deaths of Sath’s father and her brother leave Rixmey perplexed and Sath irritated. Ultimately there is a mutual understanding between Sath and Rixmey that the deaths of his grandfather and uncle are to be buried in the past while the trauma that his mother Sath endures would remain silenced.
