War Love

“War Love”, the title track and single from Jessica Lá Rel’s debut album is an anthem for Black femme power in all its magnificence and controversy. Building on the “crooked room” concept from Melissa Harris Perry’s book “Sister Citizen”, the video depicts Lá Rel trapped in a room of crooked images and being freed by other black women and ultimately by herself. “War Love” puts the journey to self-reflection, love, and acknowledgment FOR Black women BY Black women on display, and it is magic. It is war, and it is love.
Directed by Tayo Amos (USA)
