Ruins remember what once stood. Paintings remember what once was seen. But can music remember what once was felt? We often think of history as something meant for the eye. Yet I began to wonder: can it also be heard? My name is Yifu Xing, a high school student from Beijing China, with a passion for the humanities. I have been drawn to two forces that transcend time, history and music, and I wanted to discover their intersection. My journey started in Beijing, where for 3 years I travelled nearly 20,000 kilometers across China: to the desert dunes and grottoes of Dunhuang, to the ancient maritime hub of Quanzhou, and its modern predecessor Shanghai, and finally to the bustling bazaars and highlands of Xinjiang.
