Marmalade is a documentary woven from table side conversations between director Vasso Omirly and their yiayia, Rouby Omirly. Her ritual of making preserves is captured here along with a meditation on her experiences, poetry, and survival. Rouby recounts a life across continents: her childhood in Greece during World War II, her work as a seamstress in Canada, and her eventual move to America, where she rebuilt a life and family. The film is a meditation on memory, labor, and love. Marmalade asks what it means to hold the sweetness of your beginnings and the tenacity to rebuild a life and family alone.
