When Chess Club wrote, “Wedding of the Year” it was a moment that felt like lightning in a bottle. Everyone in the room had the feeling that a special song was just pulled from the cosmos.
Setting out to combine serious pop music with humorous observations, Chess Club pulled from a real life experience of having feelings for a significant other’s best friend and expanded the relatable experience into a masterpiece of a song. The story plays out the way a sitcom or romantic comedy could allow the characters to do the things that many people think about but could never act upon.
With a plot twist that comes in a hook that asks a significant other to put in a good word with their roommate, the story paints a picture of an untraditional love story that culminates in a wedding that while called “Wedding of the Year” is destined to be known as the “Song of the Year”.
