During the years of China’s sent-down youth movement, a young intellectual from Shanghai is sent to rural Xinjiang, where he falls deeply in love with a local village girl.
Their love is fiercely opposed by the girl’s family, who fear he will eventually abandon her and return to the city. Under emotional pressure and despair, the young woman suffers a psychological collapse.
Yet the man refuses to leave her.
Through years of suffering, illness, emotional breakdowns, and hardship, he remains beside her — enduring violence, confusion, and endless uncertainty while continuing to care for her with unwavering devotion.
Seven years later, the woman unexpectedly regains clarity and slowly returns to normal life.
Based on a true story, “Love Conquered Madness” is a poetic narrative music film about sacrifice, endurance, and the redemptive power of love.
