An unemployed young man, Chen Dong, returns to his hometown supermarket. Seeing his peers thriving in their careers and achieving financial freedom, he is consumed by anxiety and greed. He obtains a golden toad from a mysterious old man, believing it will make him rich overnight—the toad actually starts spitting gold coins. He worships it frantically, and gold coins rain down. As his greed reaches its peak, he realizes: the one devouring him is not the golden toad, but the abyss of desire he himself has dug.
