Set in Los Angeles in late 1999, Shenanigans follows James Dwayne Jr., a Serbian-American college senior caught between his father’s expectations and his own uncertainty about the future. To cope, he secretly vents his frustrations to “Dr. Superlove,” an anonymous AOL advice persona run by Stacey, a sharp but overwhelmed UCLA freshman posing as a therapist.
After a chaotic frat party, a blow-up with his brother, and rising pressure from both of his parents, James unknowingly crosses paths with Stacey in real life. Their anonymous online connection collides with their messy offline realities, forcing both of them to confront the lies they tell and the truths they avoid.
As Y2K approaches, Shenanigans becomes a story about identity, family pressure, and the unexpected people who help us see ourselves more clearly.
