Berlin 1914. Circus owner, Old Jacob, is shocked to discover his son, Paulus, has decided to marry before he joins the army. Hoping to block this marriage, Jacob decides to recruit the very real powers of his clairvoyant Madame Matushka, instead she will show him the true horrors of the future.
A mixture of animation and live action, Berlin Circus, is a new take on the classic Christmas Carol story, a fresh vision on how people are swept into the excitement of war. A fantasy drama set just as Germany joins the war in 1914, this is a microcosm story about the wants and needs of selfish people who are truly unaware of the Armageddon that awaits them. Much like the BBC’s Lost Prince, or 37 Days, the story is set just before the countries of Europe mobilise and ready for the insane destruction of World War 1. Most historical dramas of this era focus on the giants and the players as they lead us into battle however this story focuses more on the families and people who will fight that war.
