In the nation-building of modern China, women have played an indispensable role. They upheld their families on their shoulders, supporting loved ones and ensuring the survival of countless Chinese households through times of war, famine, and political upheaval. Family is the foundation of a nation, and women are the core soul of that foundation. This documentary weaves the life story of one woman into the history of her family and that of the Chinese nation. Raised in a rural village along the “Mother River,” the Yangtze, she faced historical turmoil with unwavering resilience, creating a safe haven for her family through difficult times. She had a vision that transcended her circumstances, sending each of her daughters to school to receive an education, creating more possibilities for their future and the growth of her family. This spirit is at the heart of why the Chinese nation stands strong, despite all its trials and tribulations.
