The End

The End

The End tells the story of American’s oldest privately owned island, Gardiner’s Island. The 3,318 acre private island that sits off the coast of the Hamptons is considered priceless.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Salvador Dalí, Jimmy Buffett, and Ernest Hemingway have all been there, but you’re not allowed — the property is only accessible by boat and strictly forbidden to outsiders. Like Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, nobody goes off and nobody comes on.

In this documentary, we speak to local historians, former residents of the island, and the obsessed who revolve their summers around visits to the island about the lore of Gardiner’s Island, what role the island plays in Long Island’s future, and what it looks like when old New York money is hidden from the world.
