At a regional office of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, the largest child protective services agency in the United States, graduate student Rochelle embarks on her new career as a children’s social worker. Paired with Kate, a dedicated veteran with a very low threshold for bullshit, Rochelle is thrust into a world for which she has trained but still unprepared.
