Set in the shadow of a decade-long period of political and social chaos in China – the Cultural Revolution, 13 -year-old Yangyang and his older brother Chunzi struggled to live under the poverty line in a small village. Chunzi dreamed to join the army as it’s the only hope for underprivileged children like him to leave the mountains and change their fate. Yangyang, feeling lost in his early adolescence, gradually finds courage, love and hope and finally embarks on his own journey to seeking the world outside of the mountains.
