When lies become alternative facts, what happens to truth? Using only the fifty-six words in the English translation by Elaine Feinstein, Marina Tsvetaeva’s poem undergoes another transformation to reveal new truths. Are poetic truths the only ones we can rely on? Is poetry’s secret weapon – ambiguity – the antidote to lies?
