The Red Envelope

Posted by

This story is about an elderly mother, who hopes her son comes back home on Chinese New Year’s Eve. In Chinese society, the day of Chinese New Year Eve is one of the most important dates for family reunions. Children always look forward to it since they will receive red envelopes with lucky money inside from their elders. Here, the red envelope can also be seen as part of the good old days when the children hadn’t left home, and it is ironic that the elderly wish to use money to encourage them to come home.
