La Guerra

“La Guerra” is a short documentary film that tells the story of a young, Mexican American woman from Southern California who has taken on a much greater role for her family in the face of her parents’ deportation. Growing up in a mixed-status family, 19-year-old Angelica Guerra has seen both of her parents leave the United States with no real hope of return. Angelica chose to make the best of the situation by continuing to study, work, and take care of her siblings to keep the American Dream alive, despite her family’s separation.

Beast

A younger sister struggles to contain her anger at her domineering older sister. When her feelings finally overflow, they take the form of a magical spider. The spider grows with her desire for power until it is too big to contain. When it threatens both her and her sister, they must reconcile their differences or be overwhelmed by its force.

A Memento Of Life

Thematically this is the story of a moment in the evolution of how we keep mementos of loved ones through photography inspired by love.
Harlan Bullock is a post-mortem daguerreotypes who travels the countryside creating mementos of the deceased for the living. It’s love at first sight that allows him to rethink of how he shares his craft.

Hunger

Yoshizumi Nagaya, a Japanese sushi chef, sits at his table at home in the evening. It is raining outside. Suddenly someone knocks at the door and there is this young woman.
Two residents from Zurich, Switzerland turn a child’s room into a Japanese apartment in the middle of Zurich, Oerlikon, and use a smartphone to tell the story of an obsessed man and a mysterious young woman. The result is a Japanese fairy tale from the perspective of the two European filmmakers, as they carry “their” Japan in their hearts.
